ADRD IDEAS Forum: Dementia in Zambia

The Duke-UNC Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) Research Education Component (REC) Core will host a September IDEAS Forum on global health neurology practice and research, entitled Dementia in Zambia. The event will feature three speakers from University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia: Dr. Moses Mataa, practicing neurologist with a clinical diploma in palliative care; Faith Simushi, registrar in adult neurology; and Dr. Mashina Chombo, practicing neurologist. The event will also feature Dr. Deanna Saylor, associate professor of neurology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. The speakers will explore the epidemiology of dementia in sub-Saharan Africa, unmet care needs for patients with dementia and their caregivers, the overlap between AD and HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders, and future directions for dementia research in Zambia.
