Welcome and opening remarks at 6:00pm MASKS REQUIRED SCOPES is a student-led initiative committed to integrating the arts and humanities into medical education at Duke University School of Medicine. First-year medical students are given the opportunity to supplement their curriculum and consider the experiences of patients through creative forms and media. Students partner with patients who live with chronic illness, and through SCOPES develop an art piece that captures their reflection on the patient experience. Join us for the 2021 SCOPES Art Exhibition: A Multi-Media Reflection on Chronic Illness. This year's works include painting, digital art, poetry, drawing, sculpture, and fiber art. Pieces from the 2020 exhibition, seen only online last year due to COVID, will also be displayed. This exhibition opening is free and open to faculty, staff, and students. Given the new indoor mask mandate, we are unable to serve refreshments as planned. Also, everyone attending must wear a mask. From August 4 - September 30, the art from the exhibition will be displayed in the Mars Gallery in the Duke University Hospital Concourse. The 2021 SCOPES virtual exhibition will go online starting August 4th.
