CAMP Experience at Duke OTD

Join us!

Thank you for your interest in participating in the upcoming Comprehensive Assessment and Management of Practice (CAMP) Course, offered by the Duke Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) program. The next course will run from February through April 2026.

What Is CAMP?

CAMP is a hands-on course in the second year of Duke’s Occupational Therapy Doctorate program. In this experience, community volunteers are paired with a small group of graduate OT students under the guidance of a licensed occupational therapist.

Together, students and volunteers work to identify meaningful goals and explore strategies to improve everyday life. Volunteers receive personalized attention and a customized home occupational program.

Who Can Be a CAMP Volunteer?

We welcome individuals 18 years and older who experience challenges in daily life or barriers to participating in meaningful activities. You may be a good fit if you’re navigating:

  • A new or ongoing health condition
  • Age-related changes
  • Life transitions such as caregiving, parenting, retirement, or other role shifts

What to Expect

As a CAMP volunteer, you’ll be part of a team that includes:

  • A licensed occupational therapist (mentor)
  • Three to four OT students
  • You – the community volunteer

Your team will work together to assess your needs and explore practical solutions that support safe and satisfying participation in daily routines and roles. While this is a learning experience for students, many volunteers find it personally enriching and helpful.

Please note: CAMP is an educational experience and not a formal occupational therapy service.

Time Commitment

You’ll meet with your CAMP team for eight one-hour sessions, held on Tuesdays:

  • February 2 – February 23
  • March 2 – April 6

Session times are either 10–11 a.m. or 2–3 p.m., based on your availability.

Location

CAMP sessions take place at:

Duke OTD – Erwin Square Plaza
2200 West Main Street
Durham, NC 27705

Directions and parking details will be provided before your first session.
