What excites you about this role at Duke?

Duke, for me, is a chance to work in my community. I have lived in Durham for five years but for all that time, I have been working in Wake County. When I decided to leave teaching, I knew I still wanted to help students grow and that I wanted to do that in the same place I called home. The OTD program is the perfect space to fulfill both of these values.

Where did you earn your degree(s)?

I studied at Appalachian State University where I earned a degree in social studies education and German. Fun fact: I was the first person to earn a degree in German from App State!

Where are you from?

This can be a tricky question. I claim both Texas and North Carolina. I grew up outside of Charlotte, NC in a little suburb. However, I have deep family roots in the state of my birth, Texas. So… Harrisburg and Beaumont!

What is your vision for your specific role?

I am so excited to grow alongside the OTD program so that my role reflects the needs of both faculty and students. The spirit of collaboration and inclusiveness amongst the team is infectious. My vision is to use the foundation already established in a way that allows for constant evolution as needs change.

What brings you joy?

I am lucky to have many sources of joy. I am part homebody, so I love hanging with my beautiful wife and playing with our dog in our home. I have basically turned into my parents as I take on home reno projects and work in the yard. However, I am also part adventurer, so my joy can also be found in exploring European cities or Hindu temples. The vastness of history in these places makes me feel small but in the best way!
