Tessa Kight, Assistant to the Program Director and Division Chief of the Occupational Therapy Doctorate

Q: What excites you about this role at Duke?  
A: I am excited to be working with students and professors! I went to graduate school at Duke and love the academic environment.  

Q: Could you tell us about your educational/experiential background? 
A: I studied religion at Texas Christian University (Go Frogs!) and earned my master’s in divinity from Duke Divinity School. Since graduating, I have been a Development Assistant in the Major and Leadership Gifts department within Duke Alumni Engagement and Development.  

Q: List your hometown. 
A: I am from San Diego, California.  

Q: What is your vision for your specific role? 
A: I hope my love for creativity and organization leads me to identify and create efficient systems that help OTD thrive.  

Q: What brings you joy?
A: Baking, crafting, drinking coffee, and going on walks!

Q: What excites you about this role at Duke?
A: I am very excited to be joining the Occupational Therapy Doctorate team as a staff assistant and to be able to contribute to all the incredible work they do for those in the program and the community. I am equally passionate about this department’s vision of providing an inclusive, holistic approach to occupational therapy and wanting to emphasize occupation as the foundation of human health and happiness. I look forward to assisting the faculty, staff, and students in all academic and humanistic endeavors!  

Q: Where is your hometown?
A:
I moved here about five years ago from my hometown, Macomb, MI, where I received my associate degree from Macomb Community College.

Q: Tell us about your goals.
A:
I would love to explore my education further here at Duke, and I have considered different fields of interest, including psychology and speech pathology 

Q: What brings you joy?
A:
I enjoy spending time with friends, family, and my two cats, Ellie and Teddy. I also enjoy any chance I get to be creative, typically through music and crafting.
