First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, EdD, visited Durham on March 20 to deliver remarks on women’s health research to a group of about 40 invited guests from Duke University, NC Central, and UNC Chapel Hill.
Svati Shah, MD, director of the Precision Genomics Collaboratory, was among the invited guests and had the opportunity to speak with Biden. She asked Biden about how we can better support women in science careers. “Twelve percent of cardiologists are women,” Shah said. “How do we support growth for women in science and medicine?”
In her remarks, Biden called women’s health a top priority for the current administration. President Biden plans to allocate $200 million in the next fiscal year for women’s health research.
