The Office for Faculty is extremely pleased to announce the appointment of the new Director of the School of Medicine APT Office. Joan Dupont, PhD, has accepted this position and will start on July, 1, 2024. Joan comes to the School of Medicine from the Department of Medicine, where she has served as the Senior Program Director for the last two years, overseeing the Office of Faculty Affairs for the Department. In this role, Joan has led the day-to-day operations for the Department of Medicine APT team. She has worked on implementing processes for faculty annual reviews, and has led efforts to automate systems for managing the hiring and promotion process for faculty. Joan has been at Duke for 15 years and in that time she has also worked at the DCRI and with Learning & Organizational Development. From those roles, she brings direct experience in strategic planning, project management/oversight, training and development, qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, and web design.

Joan will lead a very experienced and skilled School of Medicine APT staff that has been truly exceptional in their service to the School. A very special thanks goes to Valerie Smith who has served as interim director as well as Seneca McLean and Tara Williams for their continued service. The APT team is instrumental in the daily operations of the APT office and will continue to offer strong support to Departments across the School.
