OBGE Leadership and Management Training for Biomedical Scientists (LMAP)

May, 2023

Biomedical scientists, no matter the stage, encounter daily interactions with faculty, staff, peers, and the public that require communication, leadership, and management skills to optimize productivity and promote professional growth. But how does a student learn these skills, especially if they are still in the training stage and don’t have an official leadership title? To assist in this area of professional development, OBGE is offering a 4-week series on Leadership and Management for SOM biomedical PhD students.

The series is based on the Leadership and Management in Action Program (LMAP) curriculum developed at Washington University, St Louis to equip biomedical graduate students with skills to navigate challenges they encounter in the scientific research environment. The LMAP curriculum encourages self-awareness through reflection and practice and makes use of a goal-setting and practice components after each training session.

OBGE trainings will occur from 12-1:30pm (lunch provided) in GSRB 1 4002 and consist of group and small group discussion as well as practice of concepts, tools, and strategies to enhance navigation of the following topics:

1) Professionalism and Professional Identity (May 4)

2) Working in Teams (May 11)

3) Inclusive Organizational Cultures (May 18)

4) Leading Without Authority (May 25)

Students are encouraged to attend all sessions, but registrations for individual sessions are accepted. Trainings will be limited to 12 students. Please click this link to register for the OBGE LMAP Training:
