We’re excited to welcome Nicholas LeBlond, PT, DPT, ATC, LAT, OCS, FAAOMPT, to the Duke Doctor of Physical Therapy program! A proud Duke DPT alumnus, Nick brings a deep passion for sports physical therapy, mentorship, and the Duke community. Let’s hear from him directly:

Q: What brings you joy?
Nick: Becoming a dad has been the most joyful experience of my life. Watching my son grow, learn to move, communicate, and express himself—it’s fantastic. And seeing my wife embrace motherhood with such grace has been inspiring.
Professionally, I love working in sports physical therapy, especially when I get to cover acute injuries. Helping athletes from the moment they’re injured through their recovery—and seeing them return to the sport they love—is incredibly rewarding.
Q: What excites you about your new role at Duke?
Nick: I was once sitting in the same classrooms as a Duke DPT student, and this program was my dream school. It gave me three formative years and introduced me to my wife. So, being back here now as faculty is surreal and meaningful.
I’m excited to help students grow in confidence and competence, just like my mentors helped me. And I’m energized by the chance to work alongside leaders in our field. Duke DPT’s culture of growth and innovation is something I’m proud to be part of.
Q: Where are you from?
Nick: I’m from Biddeford, Maine—a small coastal town with a great food scene, beautiful beaches, and a revitalized downtown. My family has lived there for generations, and that deep sense of community shaped who I am.
Q: Where do you see physical therapy heading in the next 5–10 years?
Nick: I think we’re moving toward competency-based education, which makes sense given how our profession is evolving. We need to make sure graduates are ready for the complexity of modern practice.
I also see more specialization in PT, which will increase the need for residency and fellowship training. Clinical education will need to become more targeted and robust. These changes will help us deliver better care and thrive in a complex healthcare landscape.
Q: What do you enjoy outside of work?
Nick: Spending time with my wife and son, cheering on Duke Athletics, visiting Maine, and playing golf. Those are my favorite ways to unwind.
Welcome back, Nick! We’re thrilled to have you on the Duke DPT team and look forward to the impact you’ll make on our students and community.
