NC A&T Pre‑Health Students Visit Duke OTD for Program Exploration
A group of pre-health students from North Carolina A&T University recently visited Duke to gain an inside look at the Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD), Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), and Master of Biomedical Sciences (MBS) programs. The visit provided students with the opportunity to explore campus facilities, observe classes in action, and connect directly with program faculty and staff.
The day included tours and observation sessions in Erwin Square and the Interprofessional Education (IPE) Building, giving students a closer look at Duke’s clinical, academic, and interprofessional learning environments. Afterwards, the group assembled in the IPE Lecture Hall for a Lunch & Learn and Q&A session, where representatives from all three programs shared insights into curriculum, admissions, and career opportunities in health professions.
OTD faculty and staff played a key role in welcoming students and supporting their experience, especially during the Comprehensive Assessment and Management of Practice (CAMP) course. Special thanks go to Melissa Werz, OTD, OTR/L, CDRS, Lecturer and Director of the CAMP program; Katie Haynes-Allman, Senior Program Coordinator for OTD; and Jessica Kolloen, Operations Assistant, OTD, for their leadership and coordination in hosting the group and sharing the CAMP learning experience.
This visit gave NC A&T students a valuable chance to engage directly with Duke faculty and staff, ask questions about graduate education, and consider potential next steps toward careers in occupational therapy and related health fields.
