The Mindful Trainee - OBGE mindfulness training group
There are many physical and mental health benefits to establishing a mindfulness practice. Given the research you are all doing at Duke as scientists, we are particularly interested in the potential benefits of mental clarity and focus that are improved after meditation training. As scientists, you can enhance your ability to find discoveries and your collaborations through mindfulness. Mindfulness fosters creativity allowing you to bring a unique perspective to your research. This group is intended to be a community for connection, discussion, practice, and learning as well as an opportunity to think critically about the emerging science behind mindfulness.
Meetings will be held weekly on Thursday mornings from 10:30am-11:00am on Zoom for 4 weeks, one week off, then the final 4 weeks. This course is designed to be a guided discussion centered around a scientific peer-reviewed article, chapters from a book, or a podcast. Each week, we’ll begin our meeting with a brief introduction, discuss the reading from the past week, and then end with a guided meditation. All are welcome - whether you are new to mindfulness or an experienced meditator.
For the Fall 2022 semester we will be reading and discussing the book, “Wherever You Go, There You Are” by Jon Kabat-Zinn. The book can be gotten from the library, downloaded on Kindle, etc or purchased.
