Leadership and Management Training Pilot

Leadership and Management Training Pilot

Biomedical scientists, no matter the stage, encounter daily work and interactions that require communication, leadership, and management skills to optimize productivity and promote professional growth. But how does a student learn to do this, especially if they are still in the training stage and don’t have an official leadership title? To assist in this area of professional development, OBGE is piloting a 4-week series during the month of May on Leadership and Management for SOM biomedical PhD students.

The series is based on the Leadership and Management in Action Program (LMAP) curriculum developed at Washington University, St Louis to equip biomedical graduate students with skills to navigate challenges they encounter in the scientific research environment. The LMAP curriculum encourages self-awareness through reflection and practice and makes use of a goal-setting and practice components after each training session.

OBGE trainings will led by Dr. Beth Sullivan, Associate Dean for Research Training, and Amy Kostrewa, Director of OBGE, and consist of group and small group discussion to practice concepts, tools, and strategies in the areas of Professionalism and Professional Identity, Working in Teams, Leading Without Authority, and Inclusive Organizational Cultures. Students who attend all sessions will receive documentation of completion.

The course, which we’ve kept to a limited capacity to ensure a personalized experience, has already filled up! Feel free to leave your name on the waitlist so that we can notify you if a space opens up, and also to help us gauge demand for future courses.
