We are excited to welcome Stephanie Parken, MS, OTR/L, CKTP, to the Duke Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) faculty as the Applied Practice Experience (APEx) Learning Support and Placement Specialist. With over 18 years of experience in pediatric occupational therapy across various settings—from schools and hospitals to homes and clinics in both the U.S. and Germany—Stephanie brings a wealth of knowledge, compassion, and a global perspective to her new role.

Stephanie’s passion is grounded in meaningful connection—whether it’s helping parents with strategies to support their children, sharing a laugh with a friend, or enjoying a quiet moment in nature with her family and dog. Her joy in building relationships is central to her work and teaching philosophy.

In her new role, Stephanie is eager to connect classroom learning with real-world application, helping students transform academic knowledge into meaningful clinical experiences.

“This role allows me to bring my practical knowledge into the classroom and support passionate students as they prepare for the field,” she shares. “I look forward to learning from their strengths and perspectives—it’s a full-circle moment.”

Stephanie’s journey has taken her from Jackson, Mississippi, to Texas, Boston, Berlin, and now Raleigh, where she’s lived the longest and raised her family. Her multicultural background and deep roots in the South enhance her approach to occupational therapy and education.

Looking ahead, Stephanie envisions the APEx program developing into a vibrant bridge connecting academia and practice, promoting long-term collaborations with local, national, and international organizations. She strives to create a smooth, enriching experience for both students and partners.

Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Stephanie—we’re so glad she’s here!
