Covington Highlights Vision for PT at Taiwan Convention

Dr. Kyle Covington, PT, DPT, PhD, associate professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and director of Post-Professional Education and Educational Innovation in the Duke Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program, was recently honored as a guest of the Taiwan Physical Therapy Association in celebration of its 50th anniversary. Dr. Covington also serves as President of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).

He delivered the keynote at the association’s annual convention, emphasizing the importance of vision and mission in shaping the profession’s future. He also participated in high-level meetings with Taiwan’s President, Health Minister, and Foreign Minister, as well as leaders from the UK and Australia.

Together, they discussed the importance of direct access to physical therapy services for Taiwan's citizens — a key initiative aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.

“It was an incredible honor to represent Duke and the U.S. physical therapy community at such a meaningful global event,” said Dr. Covington. “The conversations we had with Taiwan’s leadership reaffirmed the vital role physical therapists play in improving access to care and advancing public health.”

Dr. Covington’s participation highlights Duke DPT and APTA’s commitment to global collaboration and leadership in physical therapy. His contributions continue to elevate the profession and foster meaningful international partnerships.
