Celebrating Teaching Excellence, Spring 2024
OBGE evaluated 57 courses, 121 instructors, and 23 facilitators with an overall response rate of 63.83%. The successful implementation of the course evaluation process is attributed to the collaborative efforts of OBGE, program administrators, course directors, and the Office of the University Registrar.
Student evaluation of courses and instructor effectiveness is one component of an overall curriculum assessment process. The evaluations aim to:
- Provide students an opportunity to share feedback on courses, instructors, and course directors;
- Provide course directors with feedback regarding student perceptions of courses and teaching;
- Provide programs, DGSes, and department chairs with data to consider for course and curricular quality improvement efforts;
- Provide Appointments, Promotions, and Tenure (APT) committees and department chairs with instructor and course feedback to be included in faculty dossiers; and
- Provide OBGE leadership with information regarding student perceptions of courses and instruction.
At the end of each evaluation period, OBGE uses established criteria to review all course evaluation reports to close the assessment loop. The aim is to identify courses, instructors, or facilitators that have met the criteria for being worthy of recognition or for warranting additional review by department/program leadership.
Spring '24 biomedical instruction included 57 courses, 121 instructors, and 23 small-group facilitators. Of these, 21 courses (36.84%), 45 instructors (37.19%), and 6 facilitators (26.09%) met the criteria for worthy of recognition.
Please join OBGE in congratulating our fellow educators on the positive impact they have made in graduate education and instruction.
