Faculty residents Colette A. Waddell, PT, DPT, and Allyson Sutkowi-Hemstreet PT, DPT, CSCS, have completed their residency program with Duke DPT.

“Both residents made tremendous contributions to the classroom environment during their time here at Duke DPT. They will both be presenting their scholarly projects at the upcoming APTA Educational Leadership Conference in Philadelphia this October,” said Jamie Greco,
PT, DPT, EdD, “We anticipate they will continue to impact DPT education in many ways and look forward to hearing about their many future accomplishments and seeing them become national leaders in the PT profession.”

Dr. Sutkowi-Hemstreet was part of the 2022-2023 Health Professions cohort of the Teaching for Equity Fellowship. She is a board member of the Duke Alumni LGBTQ+ Network and a member of the APTA’s PT Proud Membership Committee. Her clinical focus is primarily adult acute care and patients with cardiovascular and pulmonary conditions. She also has an interest and passion for social justice, humanities in medicine, and inclusive educational practices. Earlier this year, she published Perspective: Being Authentic Offers Patients Better Care, in the APTA Magazine.  Read on the DPT website.

Dr. Waddell's clinical experience has included acute care and long-term rehabilitation. She will soon begin a new role as clinical instructor and director of admissions for the Physical Therapy Program within the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She said the  experience has been a game changer for her professionally and personally.

"I came into the faculty development residency thinking that at the end I would be a better educator, not only for the future students that I will get to serve, but also for my patients. At the end of these two years, not only am I a better educator, but I am also a better person. This residency has positively shaped my perspective on so many things and for that I am extremely grateful,” she said.

To the faculty and staff, thank you for making sure that I feel seen, for listening to all of my questions, and encouraging me every step of the way. To the students, thank you for allowing me to learn from you. Each experience with you in the foundation from which I get to continue to grow. Although this marks the end of my tenure as a Faculty Development Resident, I hope a small piece of me has positively impacted you in the same way that you have impacted me.”
