About the Meeting

Making the transition to a leadership role can be difficult. If you are a faculty or professional staff member in academic medicine or science who is new to leadership, aspiring for more responsibility, or never had formal leadership training, join us for the AAMC Leadership and Management Foundations for Academic Medicine and Science Seminar. There, you will be equipped with actionable tools and techniques that will prepare you for success in effectively navigating the new responsibilities of your position as well as the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

What to Expect

Over two-and-a-half-days of highly interactive sessions, our expert faculty will help you answer the questions in the following areas, such as:

  • Defining Leadership: What’s the difference between leading and managing? How do I make the transition from being a contributor to a leader? How can I build my leadership presence and credibility?
  • Leading with Emotional Intelligence:  How can I manage and channel the emotions of myself and others to create a productive and healthy work environment? How can I build and improve my own emotional intelligence?
  • Managing Time and Multiple Priorities: How do I balance the demands of being a leader with my other roles and responsibilities? How do I make time for what’s important and meaningful? How can I be an effective leader and still focus on my health and well-being?

You will also take part in essential management breakout sessions that will help you gain insight into critical tools and best practices that will help you succeed in conducting meetings, giving feedback, and negotiating with others as a leader.
