Fatima Al-Sarakbi Hernandez

duke otd student Fatima Al-Sarakbi-Hernandez
Class of 2026 (she/her)

I was born in Syria and spent my early years there before moving to Mexico. Later, I settled in Michigan and eventually completed my education in California, graduating from USC with a biology degree.

My career journey has been diverse, including roles as a vision therapist, education specialist, and even exploring the foreign service. Each experience deepened my appreciation for individuals’ unique complexities. Now, at Duke, I’m pursuing a theology certification, taking low-vision courses, and actively involved in groups like the Duke Health Center for Interprofessional Education and Care and its peer facilitation initiatives, which emphasize collaboration and mental health.

I’m excited to keep learning, fostering connections, and staying curious. I’d be happy to answer any questions about grad school! My favorite occupations are bracelet-making, crocheting, and walking.
