What interested you in applying for this job with Duke?

What excites you about joining the Duke OTD team?
The opportunity to work with a group of dedicated professionals who share a passion for advancing the field of occupational therapy. Collaborating with like-minded individuals in an environment that fosters creativity and critical thinking is incredibly inspiring. I am eager to contribute my expertise and learn from the diverse perspectives of the team members at Duke.

Tell us about your interest in coordinating fieldwork?
Coordinating fieldwork is an aspect of my role that I find particularly satisfying. It allows me to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world clinical experiences for students. I enjoy facilitating the transition from theoretical knowledge to practical application by organizing meaningful and enriching fieldwork opportunities. Witnessing the growth and development of students as they navigate their clinical placements brings a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment.

What are your own research and clinical specialties and how were you drawn to this area of work?
My research and clinical specialties revolve around the intersection of occupational therapy, learning, and diversity. I have a particular interest in working with diverse student learners and exploring ways to ensure inclusivity within the occupational therapy profession. My passion for this area of work stems from recognizing the importance of the need to address disparities in healthcare access and outcomes. I am drawn to research and clinical work that aims to enhance the delivery of occupational therapy services in particular within the Caribbean diaspora.

What brings you professional joy?
The opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of students and members of the community. Witnessing the transformation of students as they develop their skills and grow into competent occupational therapists is incredibly rewarding. Additionally, being able to contribute to the advancement of the occupational therapy profession through research, innovation, and collaboration brings me a deep sense of fulfillment.

What brings you personal joy?  What do you like to do when you are not working?
On a personal level, spending time with my family brings me immense joy. I cherish the moments of togetherness and enjoy creating lasting memories with my loved ones. I also find joy in exploring new dining establishments and trying different cuisines, as it allows me to indulge in my passion for food and cultural experiences. Watching and participating in sports provides a social outlet to interact with people with similar interests.

Finally, I find personal contentment while completing international occupational therapy collaboration experiences, where I can connect with professionals from different countries and cultures, exchange knowledge, and broaden my perspective. These experiences enrich my personal and professional growth, allowing me to bring new insights and ideas into my work.
