Derek Clewley, PT, DPT, PhD, Named Assistant Director of Curriculum

The Duke Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Division is pleased to announce that Derek Clewley, PT, DPT, PhD, has been appointed Assistant Director of Curriculum, effective January 1, 2026.

Clewley currently serves as associate director of the Duke Center of Excellence in Manual and Manipulative Therapy (CEMMT) and as an assistant professor of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is also a core faculty member in the DPT program, where his leadership and expertise have greatly influenced the second phase of the curriculum.

In his new role, Clewley will oversee and improve the second phase of the DPT curriculum. His responsibilities will include coordinating course schedules, managing comprehensive exams, updating Advanced Practice Course offerings, and providing support to faculty and students during curriculum transitions. He will also serve on the curriculum committee and assist with strategic planning for curriculum retreats.

I believe we have a special opportunity to enhance our already strong curriculum to create innovative and meaningful experiences as we continue to grow,” shared Clewley.

Clewley’s appointment reflects his intense dedication to educational excellence and innovation. His collaborative approach and curricular insight will be key in advancing the program as it continues to develop to meet the future needs of physical therapy professionals.
