CMB Rotations

PhD students in the CMB Program are required to complete a series of three rotations in the first year prior to choosing a research mentor and affiliating with a degree-granting department or program. Each rotation is approximately 6 weeks long and should generally follow the timeline below:

Rotation 1: start by August 28, 2023
Rotation 2: start by October 23, 2023
Rotation 3: start by January 8, 2024
Rotation 4: start by March 4, 2024 (optional)
Rotation 5: start by April 29, 2024 (optional)

In early April, students will receive information regarding the affiliation process from the CMB Program office. If you have questions about the process before then, do not hesitate to contact us. Please keep the Director of Graduate Studies and Program Administrator informed of any deviation to the rotation schedule, or if you feel an additional rotation is necessary to find an appropriate lab for your thesis research.

Before the start of each rotation, students are required to complete and submit a Rotation Form that includes the name of the mentor, start and end dates, and a brief description of the proposed research plan. As the rotation end date approaches, an assessment is provided by both the mentor and trainee for feedback on the student's rotation in the lab.
