VA Partnerships

Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPAs)

All IPAs between Duke University School of Medicine (SOM) and the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) require institutional approval before they can be submitted to the VA for review.

Regulatory and background details may be gleaned from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.

For National Institute of Health (NIH) sponsored projects, Duke faculty members with a dual appointment between the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (referenced as VAMC or VA) and Duke University must maintain a valid MOU identifying their relationship between both parties on at least an annual basis as long as there are not any significant changes to the faculty member's distribution within that annual period. Please refer to the NIH Grants Policy Statement Part II Subpart B Section 17.3 for further details.

Personal Service Agreement (PSAs)

A Personal Service Agreement (PSA) is used when there is an agreement between the Institute for Medical Research (IMR) and Duke University.

IMR is a non-profit, tax-exempt institute whose mission is to support research and education activities at the Durham VA Medical Center.
