ASIST is Supporting Scientific Integrity at Duke

Our Mission:

To build a strong support system for researchers by promoting a culture of scientific integrity, improving data management practices, developing educational materials, and organizing outreach activities that engage and support the Duke scientific community.

Our office collaborates with departmental research laboratories, core facilities, and shared resources to:

  • Develop and administer mandatory training for Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)
  • Collect and disseminate the best RCR and data provenance methodologies
  • Communicate with the Duke community about research integrity best practices
  • Pilot and implement software solutions to support best practices in research integrity (e.g., iThenticate, electronic laboratory notebooks)
  • Identify and review research integrity practices of program core facilities managed by individual faculty under a grant or contract, as well as Institutionally Designated Shared Resources
  • Evaluate Science Culture and Accountability Plans (SCAPs) and refine as necessary
  • Evaluate Data Management Standard Operating Procedures (DMSOPs) and advise laboratories on proper data management practices, other compliance-related issues and measures to increase the reproducibility of research
