Faculty as Leaders: Group Coaching for Summer 2020

In an effort to continue to support faculty during these challenging times, the Duke School of Medicine Executive Coaching Program will be offering free Group Coaching Sessions throughout summer 2020. Building on a series of “rapid response group coaching” sessions in April and May, this new series will focus on faculty as leaders and the challenges faculty members may face while navigating uncertain times. Sessions will be held twice weekly via Zoom and are open to all SOM faculty. This service will be provided by the Office for Faculty at no charge. You may attend as many (or as few) of these “drop in” coaching sessions as you like between July 8 and August 31.

About the coaches: Sessions will be led by Executive Coaches Sharon Hull, MD, MPH, PCC, Jodi Hawes, MD, and Karen Steinhauser, PhD (coaches' bios). At least one coach (and most often two) will attend each session and facilitate the conversations.

Who should attend: Sessions are open to SOM faculty of all ranks, and at all leadership levels.

What to Expect: Coaches will facilitate rich, small-group discussions addressing participant-driven agendas: a type of “crowdsourcing with colleagues” to respond to your needs, questions, and concerns. Common leadership skills coached about include managing a team in uncertainty, giving effective behavioral feedback, setting boundaries for yourself and your team, navigating burnout, communication, leading by example, coaching skills for leaders and managing difficult conversations. We hope to foster a great sense of community among your colleagues and allow you to leave with tangible skills for yourself, your team, and your organization.
