Study Away

Students who have successfully completed all courses in the first two years and have maintained a high level of academic performance may study at another institution for a maximum of 36 credits if prior approval is obtained from the Third Year Committee. During the fall and winter of the second year, students interested in this option can obtain view study Away information, including a spreadsheet with the past few years of locations, mentors and project titles, on BOX.

All students, even those studying away from Duke, must select a study program affiliation. You will find a complete Study Program listing here. Potential sponsors suggested by the Study Program Director and faculty at Duke should be contacted to identify projects that can be undertaken. If possible, it is beneficial to visit the Study Away location. The director of that study program provides guidance as to what resources and environment to look for in a Study Away site, and monitors the extramural experience. The application must be submitted by March 1st deadline. If your plans are dependent upon scholarship notifications, the application must be submitted by April 1st.
