Life Outside the Hospital

Going to school isn’t the only thing we do – in fact, far from it! One of the best things about Duke is that the flexibility of our schedules, especially first and third years, gives us the freedom to invest our time in things beyond school. The level of student engagement in extracurriculars is truly remarkable – from student groups to connecting with our peers through social events to exploring Durham, we have a lot going on outside of class and the hospital.

Community Events

The Davison Council sponsors a number of events for the entire medical school throughout the school year. Through these, we hope to build community between and within medical school classes and foster student connections across Duke with other health professional and graduate programs.

Life in Durham

Durham is a great place to live with a lot to offer no matter what you’re into! From a thriving food and brewery scene to a variety of nearby scenic outdoor locales to nightlife, there’s always something to do. As part of the Research Triangle, we’re a thirty-minute drive from Chapel Hill and Raleigh, so there’s plenty of explore when you want to break your routine. And there’s the added bonus of going to a school with a top-ranked basketball program!
