Altered olfactory acuity in the morbidly obese.

Obese individuals have been reported to have a heightened desire for and ability to identify sweets when compared with leaner persons. Smell, like taste, may also be altered in obese persons compared with leaner subjects.

An emerging schizophrenic syndrome.

This case history describes a 16-year-old adolescent male who developed schizophrenia with prominent negative symptoms. For the previous 6 years his diagnosis had been oppositional defiant disorder or conduct disorder.
