This School of Medicine program provides resources for the recruitment of outstanding tenure track faculty members who are jointly recruited by centers/institutes and departments, or by two or more departments within the School of Medicine. The purpose of the Partnership Hires initiative is to encourage strategic interdisciplinary recruitment of the highest caliber faculty members. These are expected to be extraordinary individuals who have the ability to make significant short-term and long-term contributions to interdisciplinary research in the School of Medicine.
Joint proposals should be submitted by the interested chair(s) and director(s). Generally, four positions are supported each year.
Proposals should include a narrative describing the expected impact of the position on the mission of the participating departments and centers/institutes, including the ability to integrate with existing faculty programs of strengths and/or new opportunities.
Successful proposals must be truly interdisciplinary, and require a match of $500,000 or less from the Partnership Hires fund, with other resources provided by the partners. Basic science departments that do not currently have approved slots for recruiting may still be eligible for partnering; the relevant basic science chair should discuss this directly with the dean. Applications that are not interdisciplinary, or that require most/all funding from the school will not be successful.
