
Recognizing the need to more fully understand the opportunities and challenges in dismantling racism and advancing equity, diversity and inclusion across the School, Dean Mary Klotman, MD, commissioned a highly collaborative strategic planning process in order to listen, develop ideas, and form recommendations.
Four constituent-based committees comprising hundreds of faculty, students, postdocs, and staff were convened to identify key issues and opportunities and to engage constituencies in formulating recommendations to advance our goals. In addition, an oversight committee of approximately twenty School of Medicine representatives was formed to help integrate the committee findings, prioritize recommendations, and address any gaps.
Collaboration across Duke Health has been facilitated through regular meetings of the Executive Leadership. We’ve also engaged with leaders from Duke’s major research entities to understand opportunities in our research mission.
