This commitment, known as Moments to Movement (M2M), extends within our institutional walls, our surrounding community, and our nation.

In the latest edition of a recurring video series video series, Dean Mary Klotman, MD, chats with Nadine Barrett, PhD, and Kevin Thomas, MD, co-chairs of the Moments to Movement Faculty Anti-Racism Committee. The co-chairs discuss the committee’s work, which began in July, and reveal some of their recommendations for dismantling racism and promoting equity for faculty across the school.

In the summer of 2020, Dean Mary Klotman hosted a special State of the School Address, "Turning a Moment into a Movement: Dismantling Racism in the Duke University School of Medicine," launching a School-wide strategic planning process to dismantle racism in our School and in the communities around us. A School-wide Commitment
The fundamental changes needed to eliminate systematic racism and its associated harms within the School of Medicine will take time, energy, and insights from all members of our School. To identify key priorities and opportunities in dismantling racism, the School created four committees representing all of our major stakeholders. Read more about them here.
Ensuring Belonging and Equity for all of Our Learners
The Duke University School of Medicine is committed to enhancing diversity, equity, and a sense of belonging for all of our learners in our health education and biomedical programs. The School is also committed to training a healthcare work force that is intentionally anti-racist. Our current efforts are led by our Health Professions Students Anti-Racism Committee and our Graduate Students and Postdocs Anti-Racism Committee, which will identify opportunities for growth and sustainable improvement.
