The Department of Population Health Sciences Research Talks discuss completed studies, works-in-progress, or proposals. This month's talk, "Health Information, Illness Beliefs and the Use of New Technologies: Evidence from Malaria Treatment in East Africa."features Dr. Indrani Saran of the Duke Global Health Institute.

She will show how people use new information to update their health-related beliefs. Her studies focus on improving the use of malaria diagnostics and treatment as early diagnosis and correct treatment could help reduce the ~400,000 deaths each year. She looks at types of interventions that can modify people's beliefs to encourage uptake and appropriate use of effective health tools.
