Occupational, Environmental, Radiation and Biological Safety

The Occupational and Environmental Safety Office (OESO) promotes a safe environment for the Duke Community.

The Radiation Safety Division provides guidance and oversight to users of radiation producing devices and radioactive material on campus, in the Medical Center, in the Medical School, at the accelerator facilities, and at Duke University affiliated medical facilities. In addition, the Radiation Safety Division provides support to the Radioactive Waste Program and provides oversight for the Laser Safety Program.

The Biological Safety Division addresses employee safety, training, policies, and other concerns regarding occupational exposure to biological agents such as bloodborne pathogens (HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, etc.), and tuberculosis (TB). The Biological Safety Division also provides administrative support for the Institutional BioSafety Committee (IBC).
