Overview

The School of Medicine Office for Faculty Development serves as a resource for faculty at all levels. Our goal is to promote faculty success and well-being by offering tools needed to successfully navigate a career at Duke.

We offer grant writing workshops, a professional development seminar series and networking events. We also conduct institutional research focusing on equity and diversity and develop strategies to address the work/life balance needs of faculty.

Gopen Writing Seminars – This annual seminar series focuses on scientific writing from the reader’s perspective. Sessions are typically held in October/November

Write Winning Grants – This popular 1-day grant writing workshop provides in-depth advice for writing a successful grant proposal. The seminar is usually held in July

New Faculty EventsNew Faculty Orientation and a New Faculty Welcome Reception are held each September/October. These events are designed to connect newer faculty with key people and resources in the School of Medicine and to foster a sense of community and collegiality amongst faculty. Faculty hired in the past 1-3 years are encouraged to register for both events. Invitations are sent to all new faculty via e-mail.

Professional Development Seminar Series – These seminars focus on finding and submitting grants, personal career planning, professional “survival” skills, and cultural/organizational dynamics at Duke. Research-related topics are organized into a “Research Core Curriculum.” Current availabilities are posted on the upcoming events page. Faculty will receive updates about new events via e-mail.
